Central Districts Dahlia Circle
Our Dahlia Show Season has now wrapped up for the year — and what a fantastic season it has been!
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our growers, exhibitors, volunteers, and visitors who made our shows so special. From first-time entries in the Rainbow Section to seasoned exhibitors, it’s been incredible to see the passion for dahlias continue to grow across our community.
What Happens Over Winter?
While the blooms may have finished, winter is one of the most important times in the dahlia growing calendar. This is where the real work begins behind the scenes to set up for next season’s success.
Over the coming months, we encourage growers to focus on:
Lifting your dahlia tubers once the plants have died back
Dividing tubers to increase your stock and maintain plant health
Cleaning and storing tubers correctly to prevent rot and disease
Planning next season’s garden and show entries
Labelling and organising your varieties (future you will thank you!)
Winter Workshops
Due to the cost of petrol, we will be holding fewer workshops this season. However, several of our members will be posting on our Facebook page when they are working in their gardens and inviting people to come along for smaller, informal sessions.
Upcoming dates:
Lifting and Dividing Workshop
14 June at 10.00am
Kowhai Park, Feilding
Tuber Sale
7 November at 10.00am
Kowhai Park, Feilding
Looking Ahead: Planning for the next season is already underway! Our 2026/2027 Show Season dates will be released later this year.
Be sure to check back regularly or follow us on social media to stay up to date.
